"What is this Project Sonya keeps alluding to? Will we ever see it?" Find out more!

Once upon a time, in mid April, I was walking through Macy's, when I literally ran into a rack of absolutely incredible jackets. They were navy blue with gold trim; a very clean military-style cut.  I tried one on and look absolutely fabulous.  The downside was the price: $200.  Wayyyyyy out of my budget. So I wisely (sadly) put the jacket back, and carried on my way.  Then, like lightning striking my brain, I had an epiphany.  It sounded like this:

SONYA YOU CAN SEW.  MAKE THAT DAMN JACKET YOURSELF.

So I hightailed my sweet self over to Goodwill, where I picked up a lovely khaki blazer for $7. (It was actually $8 but I found a dollar in the pocket.  Providential!)  Next I popped over to my local fabric store.  The owner has a huuuuge crush on yours truly, so I picked up my notions (shop talk meaning extra shit that isn't the fabric) for a fraction of their price.  Total spent: $10.It took me a little while to figure out exactly how I was gonna approach the style I wanted, but I eventually figured it out. I ironed out the lapels and halved the collar, correcting the silhouette.  Hours and hours of Netflix later, I had hand-stitched the entirety of the blue trim- the collar, the sleeves, the shoulders, the back, and the entire border of the jacket.  What really took the time was that I was basically making it up as I went.  This first jacket was my guinea pig.  I'd say it came out decent! So there it was.  I had done it, and what's more, I knew I could do it again.  I made a $200 jacket for $10 in less than a week.  My eyes were replaced by dollar signs as I contemplated my future.

So I went out and picked up a few more jackets, each costing $6-$9.  Bought (basically stole) more notions from the fabric store guy.  Made jacket number two.

This jacket came out faster and better than the first one.  It exceeded my wildest dreams, kinda.I tried a few new techniques, and lengthened the sleeves, a process I was pretty worried about.  It worked like a dream.  My color scheme was pulled together in the details on this one, for sure. And there it was.  I had created something new from something old, and I knew I had great potential.

So now I have a clothing line called The Saturn Company.  It's true that these two jackets are the extent of it, but this is only the beginning.  I have my next two jackets in my mind already.

Everything will eventually be for sale on my etsy page, and I will likely take orders, though I'm still working that out.

For now, keep an eye on me here, and of course LIKE ME ON FACEBOOK!
