Wind turbine collapses in high wind

By Cynthia Taylor

Wind turbine of 35 metres crashes to the ground in strong wind. It has been reported that Bradworthy’s East Ash Farm, near Holsworthy, which was erected by Dulas Limited in 2010 has come down due to strong winds. Dulas are investigating the incident.

A spokesperson for the Bradworthy District Council confirm that strong wind and hail, hit the area, causing the bolts that secure the structure to fail. This once again brings the question of safety for such high structure, back into focus.

Holsworthy is prone to thunderstorms in summer, which provides the precipitation during the summer season. Snow has not been a factor for this region

The District Council did not feel that the winds, gusting at approximately 50mph were not exceptionally high and they have concerns, as to the failure of this £250,000 tower, which was only constructed three years ago.

The local Council had originally made their opposition to the construction of this turbine known.
