Photos showing police and a woman kneeling down have swept through Wechat and sparked a heated debate.
It turns out that the woman was kneeling down begging for an exemption from traffic police after her son was suspected of drunk driving on August 28 in Handan, Hebei Province.
The woman tried different ways to prevent the police from punishing her son, who tested high over the limit. In an attempt to pacify the mother, the police kneeled down to her with resignation, according to the published account by the Handan Police’s social network.
The police officers explained the dangers of drunk driving to the woman while kneeling. The emotional mother disturbed the traffic during the rush hour and even tried to throw herself in front of moving cars and lay down on the street.
The dilemma the law enforcement officers faced became the main topic during the debate.
