Ryan Gosling returns to the loving arms of his “Blue Valentine” director, Derek Cianfrance, for the riveting “The Place Beyond the Pines.” It’s a crime drama about how the sins of a father affect his son. Told in three different narratives, there’s Ryan Gosling’s part as a father forced to rob banks in order to support his newfound son and long-lost girlfriend (played by the excellent Eva Mendes)l; there’s Bradley Cooper as a rookie cop choosing between good and evil; and then there’s the final act featuring Dane DeHaan as Gosling’s son and Emory Cohen as Cooper’s boy.
