Muslim Spain

Spain is situated in Europe. It remained the part of Muslim world from 711 AD to 1492 AD. The Umayyad Dynasty continued its rule in this country after it was overthrown by the Abbasids elsewhere. The Muslims in Spain developed a very sophisticated culture, which later influenced the ways of life in Europe. Forks and knives for eating, cuffed sleeves in shirts and belted trousers were probably all developed by Muslims in Spain. They also built great buildings including the mosque of Cordova and the Palace of Alhambra, which are both famous throughout the world. The court of lions is the famous part of Alhambra Palace.

In 1492 AD, however, Queen Isabella, ruler of Christian state in Spain, defeated the last Muslim ruler of Spain in Cordova. The Christian rulers of Spain had a bad name of religious prejudice even among the Christians of those days. They forced the entire Muslim population to convert to Christianity or leave the country.
