42 Days!

Hi All!

I thought I would write a little something about my new film '42 Days'! Which is a film made up entirely of stills, showing myself and Amy Hill's trip around New Zealand in 2011.

What I want to talk about, is the inspiration to make this video more than anything. I'm not gonna lie... when I was at uni, I always aimed to be a producer, and although I made my own films, when I left uni I relished in the relief of not having the pressure of doing it again any time soon.

However, 2 years later, there was definetly something I was craving, and missing... and I only realised last weekend that making films was what it was!! Being surrounded my film makers, I always enjoy getting involved in the creative side of things... particularly how something should look and the set design behind an idea... (Turning the tides was a big film for me for this! The little yellow mac took me a very long time to find!) However I shyed away far too much from trying to make anything of my own, because I thought there were people around me who could do it better...

BUT... that doesn't actually matter. The satisfaction I felt when editing these photos, and this film that I had wanted to make a year ago, was huge! I had a buzz and I didn't stop on my computer for 2 days straight, being a total hermit and only stepping outside when I had no choice but to.

So the Buzz is back :) I have already started gathering together other footage that I had unwillingly abandoned with the idea of editing something with it... and who knows, maybe one day soon I'll produce and direct another short drama... I do hope so! Experimenting in different types of film making is maybe where I should go... and maybe i'll find something that

Special thanks to Amy Hill, for 1. Starring in '42 Days', and giving me some cool ideas when we were out there, and 2. For inspiring me to actually edit it, after taking all the photos :)

For 42 Days, myself and Amy had purposely done things like Panned the camera and taken multiple photos of the same thing with the aim of cutting it as I did. Finding a track was tricky, I wanted a track that had a lot of pace changes so the film didn't have the same constant 'bang bang bang' all the way through, and I was really pleased with the one I found! It gave me the chance to change the mood within the photos I was showing and gave me good cutting points from scene to scene also.

However, as this film was so personal, I wanted to keep a certain amount of it chronological. Had it been a set of photos from someone else, where the events didn't matter, I probably would have ordered them very differently, but I wanted the majority of the photos to be honest to how the events unfolded, as I know i'll be looking back on this for years to come.

Anyway, that's all for now, keep your eyes peeled for my next film! I hope to edit in the next week or so, keep the buzz going!
