52 films/52 Weeks: The Robbery

Posted on at

The Robbery was our first film of the fifty-two we were attempting to do for the year 2011. It is the story of a young couple who are on a getaway from a bank robbery. They travel through the desert highways away from Los Angeles on the way to Las Vegas, when their car breaks down. After some bikering, they spot a plain looking sedan heading towards them. They get the idea to flag the unsuspecting car down and then steal the car to continue their getaway. Little do they know that an older couple are in the unsuspecting car. They pull over to give assistance. But first they grab their tools, a hammer and a knife. It seems that the older couple are serial killers that prey on unsuspecting people that break down on the highway. The resul is a standoff.

This film was shot in Lancaster, CA. We had a full crew and cast for our first film. We had two cameras, a dolly and a jib arm. Our location manager’s parents provided the food and our homebase. We found a somewhat deserted back road where cars occassionally would travel down. The police did show up at the end of the day and asked about permits. Our location manager Lindsey, told the police officers that it was a student film and she didn’t have permits. They told her to hurry up and finish. We did and got all the shots we needed. Overall, it was a perfect day. The crew were great and the cast was wonderful.

The true test however, would be the postproduction aspect of our project. Can we really deliver a high quality film in one week and more importantly, can we do it for fifty-one more weeks. Well, thats what we are out to do.
