A Supermodel, Gisele Bundchen, & Foul Gases! by Ambassador mo

Anti-CLIMACTIC and anti-climatic is an understatement in describing dashed hopes. The climate and environment advocacy agenda has had a bad year starting with the disappointments of Copenhagen and ending with a yawn in Cancun. Can beauty and celebrity help resuscitate the public interest and revitalize the push for saving the environment? Maybe that is where UN Goodwill Ambassadors like supermodel Gisele Bundchen, UN Environment Program, come in to get the environmental agenda off its back and back on top! Former US VP Al Gore only a couple of years earlier seemed to have launched climate change to the top of the global agenda, and he is no Gisele. It was cool to talk environment. After some well-publicized missteps by a few lead proponents and the big picture lost in the cloudy talks of Copenhagen, the climate and environment agenda is starting to look like an outdated one piece bathing suit on a French Riviera beach. The modesty may be appropriate but reticence has left many feeling that both the advocacy and agenda are too reserved. No doubt, those advocating a more forceful approach have not shrunk from the task, but are now collecting themselves and resources for a comeback. From governments to NGO’s, (like Soros), there is a forming new desire as well as resources for another rendezvous, (an affair now largely still being spurred forward discretely behind closed doors). But where is the passion. In Cancun, at the end of 2010, there was little notice given or enthusiasm that spilled over to the general global public. Of course, the success was modest and not something that most would be inclined to snap on their phone cameras for future, gratifying memories. Maybe the global environmental agenda should consider going back to the basics, a proven formula: sex and celebrity, to snatch the global interest and move our collective imagination from fore play to engagement. Angelina Jolie, as UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador, has made caring for the earth’s most deprived and wretched, the refugees and displaced, seem almost sexy. My take, whatever it takes to arouse our collective consciousness, whether to the suffering of fellow man or the threats to our shared environment. We need more “diplomat-artists.” Gisele, go for it, with my best wishes for your success and my respect for your engagement in this effort. mo See our latest film reports: “Greenhouse Gases at Record Levels” diplomaticallyincorrect.org/films/movie/greenhouse-gases-record-levels/23825 “Climate Talks Cancun/What Next” diplomaticallyincorrect.org/films/movie/climate-talks-cancunwhat-next/23811 “Angelina Jolie/Pakistan Floods” diplomaticallyincorrect.org/films/movie/angelina-jolie-in-pakistan/21642 “UN Climate Agenda/Island States” diplomaticallyincorrect.org/films/movie/un-climate-agenda/20920 “Zinedine Zidane & Ronaldo/Sports Diplomacy” diplomaticallyincorrect.org/films/movie/zinedine-zidane-ronaldosports-diplomacy/23534 “Ed Norton/Biodiversity UN Ambassador” diplomaticallyincorrect.org/films/movie/biodiversity-endorsedun-general-assembly/23768 “Barbara Hendricks/on Behalf of Refugees(UNHCR)” diplomaticallyincorrect.org/films/movie/barbara-hendricksunhcr-for-refugees/22780 More on DIPLOMAT ARTIST at www.diplomatartist.com PARODY: at www.undiplomatictv.com including: “Angelina Jolie: Godless, Muslim Loving Harlot or Angel of Mercy?” diplomaticallyincorrect.org/films/movie/angelina-jolie-muslim-loving-godless-harlot-or-angel-of-mercy/21751
