Amazon is known as Amazonia or the Amazon rainforest and moist deciduous forest is one that covers most of the Amazon Basin in South America. Forest covers the territory of 9 countries, Brazil, Peru, Colombia, Venezuela, Bolivia, Guyana, French Guyana, Ecuador and Suriname, with an area of 5.5 million square kilometers.

Amazon represents over half of rainforest left on Earth and is the richest ecosystems of the world. Here live many species of birds and animals, many of which are still undiscovered.

60% of the forest is on the territory of Brazil, 13% are in Peru, and the rest is shared by the other seven states.

In 2008, Amazon was canditata for the "New 7 Wonders of Nature".
