An Interview with Farzaneh Popal: An Active Afghan Women Blogger in BitLanders

Farzanah Popal is the first child of her family, she was born in 1366 in Herat province of Afghanistan. She spent her adolescence in Iran and also studied her school there. She got engaged in Iran and returned back to her homeland Afghanistan after eighteen years. Now, she is living in a small family including her husband and two children.

She is a sophomore in law and politic faculty of Herat University. She is interested in blogging and working with social media. She says “From the very beginning of Afghan Citadel Company projects, I was interested in working with them, being a member of their blogger team was my dream. Blogging for BitLanders was very useful for me, and I got lots of experiences, because it opened my mind on various cultures and the BitLanders and Women’s Annex management boards are working very usefully for all levels of society.”  She continues “Before, it was hard for me to write about something, I ask for help from others members, but now I can write not only in my native language, Persian but also in English.

Farzanah believes that Women’s Annex foundation is like a women empowerment weapon in Afghanistan and provides the women an opportunity to work out side house and earn money. She says “The best thing about this platform is that you can write anything you are interested in. I love to write about political and social situation of my county and having this chance to share them with the world makes me so happy.

Farzanah is a housewife, but she is not interested in any housework except cooking. “Being at home all the time is boring and the only thing I enjoy at home is cooking” she says.  She is also concentrating on her university studies, blogging and growing up her children. “Being a house wife, a student and working outside take all my time, I don’t have time for some entertainment, but I am totally satisfied with my lifestyle. My husband is the main incentive in my life.” When it comes to political views Farzanah supports Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai and Zalmai Khalilzad as the best politicians in Afghanistan. Her favorite global leaders are Monroe the former president of America and Naplion Bonapart leader of France.

She pictures herself as a person with great abilities. She is a doer and whenever she decides to do something, she does it in the best way possible. She believes there is nothing impossible and everything in life can be achieved. She likes studying historical and political books in her free time.
