The Arctic comprises about one-sixth of the world’s area and is home to approximately 4 million people. Much of the northern Polar Region, unlike its southern counterpart, is made up of water surrounded by land. This will continue to be the case as polar ice melts, freeing up waterways and allowing for further exploration.
