Avoid the Pain of Repetitive Stress Injury - While Using Your Computer

Posted on at

Bitlanders, if you're reading this, you might need a reminder to take care of your health. Aches and weariness from working on your computer or mobile device are no fun. Worse than that, they can become permanent injuries in a shorter time than you may think. (For more information regarding these injuries Click Here [info courtesy Tifaq].

There are many ways to avoid injury, only a few reminders can be covered here. If you already feel pain that keeps coming back, or suspect an injury, it is important to get medical attention to stop, lessen, or reverse the damage to your body.

  1. Properly position your seat, keyboard and monitor for comfort. You should be able to see and reach everything with ease. Here is a link to help you dial in the proper position for you:     see- Setting up your workstation [by Clay Scott].
  2. Learn about ergonomics. Proper equipment, like a comfortable mouse and sturdy chair support your body as you work. A work desk that swings over a chair may omit the need to twist and reach. Use creativity to make the equipment serve you and your task. The Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety has advice for improving the ergonomics of many tasks. 3. Rest. Pause from your activity every 15 to 20 minutes. In the long run, healthy breaks save time by refreshing the minds and maintaining health.
  4.  Exercise. Get a hand exerciser to keep by your computer. The best ones come from sports supply stores and move each finger independently. But a stress ball, tennis ball, or racket ball to squeeze will do the job well.

Take care of yourself and better enjoy your time online!
