Baia do Sancho

Posted on at

The claim of most beautiful beach in the world is an overstatement but this is a one of a kind beach no doubt. With bright green waters, gentile waves and some fine corals close by, Sancho's beauty is complemented by the Two Brothers islands, the curious rock formations that became synonym with Fernando de Noronha and were formerly known as a famous local singer's body feature.

Make no mistake, a visit to the island is not complete without a trip to this beach and bathing in its inviting waters and gorgeous views. A piece of advice however: go on your own early in the morning or before sunset. Although there is a strict limit to the number of people visiting at any one time, during the day guided tours flock incessantly and spoil its magic somewhat.

The beach is accessible via two routes: a stretch of dirt road leads to the park entrance (where you will have to present your pre-purchased visitor card worth £35) and go down a wooden track where you will be greeted by the best panoramic views of the beach below before going down steep steps in a ladder through a narrow slit in a rock. The other is via a boat (visitor card also required), which is much more convenient but totally misses the wow factor of the views from the top of the cliff.

The difficult access should not deter the brave traveller though as it is a great way to keep Baía do Sancho as it is: secluded and away from the crowds.
