Be Excellent in Humility

2 Peter 1:12-21

Attending a wake for a dear sister in-Christ's brother in-law, I am reminded of how little time we have in this lifetime. Just as the late brother went to be with the Lord, he left something indelible on every person's heart be it a close relative or a brother or sister in Christ of various churches and denominations. He worked hard to make sure we remember Jesus through the humility, servitude, submission, and heartbeat that brought worship to life on stage and in cell groups, but also worship throughout his marriage, marketplace and ministry, just like in verses 14-15.

Everyone who has known him has seen Jesus in him and aspire to be like him because of how much of his time, energy and heart he shared with them. If anything, I would desire to have that kind of devotion to see lives transformed but also myself transformed, more and more each day into the likeness of Jesus Christ, until I go on from this life into eternity with God, continuing to worship Him in all I do.

Like his wife said at his eulogy, "You think this kind of life is about getting fame and glory? No. I'm sorry, but if this is what you are dreaming of, this life is not for you... Every day, he die to himself. I want to watch TV, go to the movies, go shopping,... no, we just die to ourselves and serve, and then we go home and just crash."

John 15:13 NLT, "There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends."

Jesus, I pray that I will have a heart that will serve because I want to serve, not because I need the attention but because I want to be used by You. Amen.

Song: "Lord, I Offer My Life" by Don Moen

All that I am, all that I have
I lay them down before You, oh Lord
All my regrets, all my acclaims
The joy and the pain, I'm making them Yours

Chorus:
Lord, I offer my life to You
Everything I've been through, use it for Your glory
Lord I offer my days to You
Lifting my praise to You as a pleasing sacrifice
Lord I offer You my life

Things in the past, things yet unseen
Wishes and dreams that are yet to come true
All of my heart, all of my praise
My heart and my hands are lifted to You

(Chorus)

What can we give that You have not given?
And what do we have that is not already Yours?
All we possess are these lives we're living
That's what we give to You, Lord

(Chorus 2x)

Lord I offer You my life
