The Chinese government has decided to open its Consulate General office in Lahore, which is now in final mode as the land has been acquired while the recruitment for the consulate staff has been completed, it was learnt.
The Consulate General office in Lahore will facilitate the Punjab-based businessmen whose visa requirements would be met with the opening of this new office. It is to be noted that China already has consulate office in Karachi.
It is to be noted that Punjab government had approved the request of the Chinese authorities for the provision of land in Lahore to establish the consulate with a view to improve coordination for security of more than 1,000 Chinese engineers and technical experts working on different projects in Punjab.
The number of Chinese technical experts has increased sharply in Punjab as various energy mega projects of coal and solar sectors are underway. Presently, the Chinese experts are working on various projects in the province including Nandi Pur Power Project, Jinnah Barrage Hydro Power Project, Bahawalpur Solar Park, Motorways and other mega coal and hydro projects.
