Slamming the Narendra Modi government over delay in appointment of High Court judges, Chief Justice of India, T S Thakur and said that posts are falling vacant and he is pained to persuade his colleagues who are demitting office to accept these appointments. Thakur said there are around 500 judges’ posts vacant in high courts, there are vacant court room but no judges. The CJI expressed concern stating that apart from infrastructure, vacancies in court-rooms are a major concern for the tribunal.

There has been a rift between the Central government and the Supreme Court over the appointment of High Court judges.“Advance ruling is not having its chairman, Armed Forces appellate Tribunal is without a chairman, competition commission without chairman”, Thakur stated. He said tribunals are not equipped and today a situation has come that when no retired SC judge wants to head tribunal.
