Creativity & Film!

Posted on at

Humans are creative. It's what distinguishes us from animals! We have the urge and want to create, whether it be drawing, singing, writing music, writing stories or poems, taking photos etc etc. Of course, film annex is focused on the creative skill of film making, and it's something that really draws me in.

Three years ago id have told you I wasn't creative, and I just want to be a production manager. How wrong I was!! After three years of Uni, I had decided that, and now three years on, I've done a u-turn! Production managing just doesn't satisfy the creativity.

Don't get me wrong, I'm enjoying doing what i'm doing at the moment, but there's a change on the horizon. Managing crew, delegating tasks and organising kit, cast and schedules is challenging and enjoyable, I'm just not close enough to the action. I used to love organising a shoot along side the director, seeing the vision and helping to create it on screen. The reason I still produce shot films is for that reason.

So, I've decided to focus my energy on a slightly different direction, and look into becoming part of an advertising agency!

My job role wouldn't be too different, but I would be working directly alongside the creatives that are writing the script, and seeing a campaign through from start to finish, rather than jumping in for the shoot and out again.

I would be interacting daily with creative people, and not only script writers, but artists also!

Being so close to the creative action excites me alot, and I can't wait to get started!! I just hope I get to work on a John Lewis advert...

Watch this space. :-)
