CULTURAL CONFLICT

Posted on at

Introduction.

Arguably, the exploits of the Europeans in black Afrika traders, slave dealers, missionaries and later as colonialists, had left indelible effect on the live of black women all over the globe but especially in Afrika. The effects of this 'invasion' has led to various conflicts including identity(cultural), religious and conceptual conflicts. These conflicts are fuelled by the induced belief that the Europeans(westerners) are superior owing their contemporaneous scientific and technical proficiency.

Women of Afrika descent of every generation after this ''invasion" had grappled with this 'distorted reality' and while some of the educated ones were able to reconcile the conflicts to a reasonably manageable level, some others were suffused and emasculated that there exists a situation of total loss of identity and self esteem.

Can you believe that in some parts of Afrika, mothers are still happy circumcising their daughters. The traditional role of the Afrikan woman in a family is where this effect of this cultural identity loss is genuinely wreaking havoc. The western notion of the role of the woman in matrimonial home in inter relationship with her personal rights as a citizen had been creeping its way towards the cities of Afrika after its mutilation by black women of western conception, which on its own breeds perennial conflicts amongst them.

Actions.

The family is the units of every community and state. The traditional tenets and conceptual leaning of matrimonial obligation must be rediscovered and studied in earnest. All the traditional institutions that are related to the sacredness or system of the this most important and fragile unit of human community.

Closing.

In my subsequent blogs, I shall endeavour to break down what I mean by traditional tenets and conceptual leaning of matrimonial obligation, as well as the institutions referred to.

Thank you and God bless you.
