D.I.D. - Research

Posted on at

For this project, a considerable amount of research was involved. I had to make sure that all of the actions, dialogue and cinematography was truthful to the mental disorders. This could only be created through substantial research and making sure that every detail was perfect, which is way before I even started to make the narrative, storyboard, etc... In order to this, I decided That I would be using primary and secondary research.

Secondary research was the most prominent type of research I used, simply because of accessibility. I researched all kinds of medical website, searched through all symptoms, traits, etc.. but the most useful method of secondary research I found was the use of online videos. People who have videoed others or themselves about their conditions and made it so that others can see the problems that are caused by these disabilities. I used a lot of these videos for inspiration, by taking a number of different traits and bodily functions from the different people and putting into the character type for my film.

However, the most important piece of research I used was the primary. Having done a lot of work with people with mental disabilities and also having family members with similar conditions, I understand a lot of the disorders first-hand anyway. I used this as a way of researching the different personality types that are portrayed through different personalities/disorders/genders/emotions/etc... This was very useful because It was there, in front of me and I was given a lot of inspiration through this experience.
