Filmmaking from aFAR (WARS) - A New Scope

Posted on at

This is my first entry in what I hope to be ongoing effort to articulate and snapshot the current film movement within my region - the Caribbean. I'm a Trinbagonian filmmaker, born, raised, self-educated and currently working in film right from the convenience of my small island, a place not known for what I've chosen to do (or what chose me I should say). My personal view is that now is great time in the world of arts and entertainment, although the competition is way harder, there is still an allure of hope to fulfil your dreams without having to play the politics game and go through that Hollywood level drama. Don't get me wrong, I'd jump at the opportunity to work amongst the greats, and still feel as if I have that chance, but in the event that I may be suffering from a serious case of delusion, I can take comfort in that fact that the global film market is demand of new content all the time and the technology has made even the most inept at the art of filmmaking to fulfil said demand, so I have PLAN B-  self distributing indie filmmaker.

BUT, is PLAN B becoming PLAN A? This is the current situation I am navigating. Either way I will continue to make films and find ways of getting them seen and distributed. Like STAR WARS, the Empire is at risk from the Rebellion, now that it's found a new hope.  (probably need to explain this reference more....next blog!)
