People who drink every day at least half a liter of green tea shows a lower risk of death , a Japanese study.


The overall lower risk of mortality among green tea drinkers appear to be due to a reduced risk of death from heart disease. And the benefits of green tea is particularly pronounced in women.


Green tea is a very popular drink in Japan. But some people drink more than others. Women who drink five cups or more than 3.4 ounces of green tea per day reduces the risk of heart disease by 31% compared to women who drank one cup or less 3.4 oz . Men who drink as much green tea reduce their risk of heart disease by 22%.


" Green tea can prolong your life by reducing heart disease . " Our findings could the differences in the pattern of mortality between Japan and the United States. Japanese age-adjusted mortality explain [heart disease and stroke ] is about 30 % lower than the United States. "

Green tea is used in traditional Chinese medicine for centuries to treat everything from headaches to depression.

The leaves are said to be richer in antioxidants than other types of tea because of the way they are processed.


All types of tea (green, black and oolong) are produced from the Camellia sinensis plant using different methods. Fresh leaves of the plant are steamed to produce green tea, while the leaves of black tea and oolong include fermentation.

Green tea is alleged to promote weight loss, reduce cholesterol, combat cardiovascular disease and prevent cancer and Alzheimer's disease.
