The social media is an exciting avenue to learn something new and share what you are up to in order to update your friends and connections. However, if you are not careful, you might fall a victim of unscrupulous people who would stop at nothing to try to deceive gullible souls.

What Is Internet Celebrity Death Hoax?

Are you familiar with Internet celebrity death hoax? It refers to a rumor circulating across the Internet concerning the alleged death of a celebrity or renowned public figure. No one really knows who creates the rumor, but it spreads like wildfire that you can’t help but make an inquiry.

Such a hoax is not really damaging to the celebrity in question, but it is somehow annoying. I wonder what people will get if they circulate such kind of news that is not fun. Maybe they want to create panic and mayhem in this world of ours that’s already full of chaos.

Freddie Aguilar

Just last week I heard news from my big sister stating that Freddie Aguilar, a Filipino folk musician, had died. She actually received the news through text messaging. Since I had experience about stories like this, I did not believe readily, because I trust TV news more than text messages or online news.

Still I made an inquiry to be at ease, because I came to love Freddie Aguilar for his meaningful and heartfelt songs. When I made a search on Googe, not one result talked about the issue, until I found an article stating that Ka Freddie is still alive and kicking.

Jacky Chan

Sometime ago I remember an Internet celebrity hoax circulating throughout the social networking sites. Rumor has it that Jacky Chan, the Asian action superstar, died from a crash in Queensland.

This same gossip was echoed in text messages and came to my attention as well. Of course, I did not believe in it per my experience. A few years ago, others said Facebook is about to shut down and will never rise up again, but the site is still up and running until today. In contrary, it is still one of the most favorite stocks heavily invested by many in the stock market!

Now back to the Rush Hour star. The report said that Jackie Chan met with an accident while having a vacation on Queensland and he was identified by a photo ID, according to the police.

Unscrupulous people spreading the "news" went on to say in Facebook that fans of the actor should like the page, comment on it, and express their sympathy and condolences. But a representative from Jackie Chan's family confirmed that the actor is still breathing! LOL

Has anyone of you here received this kind of news lately? Did you believe in it when you first heard about it? Keep in mind this world of ours is full of people who stop at nothing to gain attention, even at the expense of others.
