HAVING AN AMERICAN BOYFRIEND <3

Posted on at

Hello everyone! This is me again! Today is our 15th monthsary with my boyfriend. It has been 15 months of love, and I am writing this blog as a tribute to one of the most special days in our lives.

So let me start my blog by telling you a quick recap of where everything started. Well for a very long time, I have had a dream of having an American boyfriend because of my aunt. My aunt has been married to a guy from Florida and they are very happy together. They always post pictures of their adventures together and they just look so in love with each other. Let me share to you some of their pictures. :)

They just look super sweet together. :) Also one of the reasons why I decided to have an American boyfriend is because of the desire to have beautiful and handsome kids. Most of the people I know who are married to Americans really have beautiful and handsome kids, even if the woman is just a regular looking Filipina. There are a lot of celebrities whose fathers are Americans and they happen to be very good-looking. Those are just some of things in the back of my mind but still, I don’t want to marry JUST for those. I also want someone who will love me wholeheartedly and someone I will love with all my heart. When I finally met my boyfriend, it was really a dream come true. That was one wish less in my bucket list.  I totally love how our relationship works, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Here are some of the things I like about it.

YOU HAVE SOMEONE YOU CAN BE PROUD OF <3

Having a successful relationship with an American is really something to be proud of. There are a lot of people who have that kind of relationship, but only few actually last. So if you are one of those who are in a strong relationship with a guy from a foreign country, be proud. Before, I tend to be shy about posting it in social media because I am scared they are going to judge me but later, I tend to realize, why should I be shy? And yes, when I started posting about it, people made comments on my posts indicating that they are jealous on how strong our bond is even if we are very far away from each other. They too are wishing that they could have a relationship like ours. It is with knowing that which makes me really proud of what I have.

If you noticed, I have been posting microblogs about Dwaine and Shanta. They are one example of a happy marriage of an Australian guy and a Filipina. I just can't resist myself to share this video to all of you.

THE COLLISION OF TWO CULTURES <3

It is fun having the opportunity to share and know different cultures. It’s not really very hard for us because in Texas, their Tex-Mex culture is not unlike our Filipino culture. The whole prospect of learning new things is what puts the fun in all of this.

IT IS FUN TO SHARE LANGUAGES <3

I am teaching my boyfriend on how to speak Bisaya so that he can also communicate with my parents when he comes here. It is so fun because every time I teach him Bisaya words, he still sounds so American-like, having the accent of one. It sounds so cute, and I also feel lucky that he is willing to learn our dialect because only few foreigners would like to do that. In addition to that he is teaching me Spanish. And just like me, he is also laughing every time I say words or phrases in Spanish because I can’t get the correct pronunciation of it. HAHA :D

This is a picture when he was trying to read a post on facebook. He is all like, "baket weleng kuryente henggeng....."

THEY LOVE TRULY AND THEY CARE FOR YOU MORE :)

I am not discriminating but based on my experience, they care and love more than Filipino men do. I have had relationships in the past with Filipino guys. They seem to be too focused on themselves. They feel that they are so handsome and they aren’t contented with having only one girl in their lives. They tend to cheat. So when I met my boyfriend from Texas, he really proved to me that my dream of having a boyfriend from America had been realized because he is WAY better than all of the other guys I had encountered. I never had any issues with him having an affair with other girls. He is so loyal to me that he would even ask permission from me first before helping an officemate during the recent Hurricane Harvey event because he is scared I’m going to get mad. He supports me in every way he can. He always saves me and has always been the superhero of my life. To say he is my SUPERMAN would be an understatement. He thinks about the future with me in it, and I really love that!

But despite all the good stuff, we cannot deny the fact that there are also negative parts about it. That dream of mine isn’t really as easy as it sounds to be. WHY?

PEOPLE WILL JUDGE YOU.

Nowadays, especially in the Philippines, marrying Americans is already very common. Some people marry for love just like what I would want to. But mostly, they marry Americans thinking that there is a greener pasture ahead when they do so. I even have a churchmate that told me she has 6 American boyfriends who send her money at almost the same time. Stories like that are very sad, but they are indeed true. That is why when people hear or know that your boyfriend is American, they will tend to judge you because they believe that you’re just having that relationship for money. But in my case, I don’t. I’m in a relationship with my boyfriend because I love him and that I want to have him as someone who I can spend my whole life with.

PARENTS TEND TO HAVE DIFFICULTY COMMUNICATING.

I want my parents to have the ability to talk with my boyfriend (and vice-versa of course), like a serious talk, but there is a wall that’s in between both because of the language barrier. My parents aren’t so good in English (well, my mama is good in speaking English but she can hardly understand my boyfriend because she said that he talks so fast) that is why whenever they talk, it is only limited. That is why I am committed to teaching my boyfriend on how to speak Bisaya.

I have here a video from Dwaine and Shanta. :)

This Foreigner speaks English, why can't you? :)

But despite all that, LOVE WINS.

True love isn’t about the happy moments you have shared together. It is about the problems you encounter and how you’ve stayed strong despite the storms of life.
