Hidden paradise

Palawan is considered as one of the top destinations in the country, and tuck in a quiet part of its capital Puerto Princesa is a resort one can enjoy: Sheridan Resort and Spa.

Last October together with some journalists, I was fortunate to visit the resort, which is located in the Sabang area. Upon entering the lobby, you will be welcomed by the big swimming pool, which is the middle of the whole resort. A jacuzzi and kiddie pools also surround the pool, but what made it very impressive was the beach chairs that were on the pool itself. No need to get out and sit on a beach if you want to lounge.

The resort features 94 rooms ranging from superior to suite for its visitors. A bar is also located in the middle of the swimming pool where one can lounge and have a drink. The resort is 20 minutes away from the famous Subterranean Underground River (which has been voted as one of the New Seven Wonders of Nature) and is accessible by a motor boat. Aside from the Underground River, the resort can also arrange other nature tours such as the Mangrove Paddle Boat tour, Sabang Waterfalls where you will pass a Chinese temple or go through an adventure with a zipline tour and ride an ATV. Tired from the tours? The resort also has a spa where one can have a relaxing massage.

Another reason why Sheridan Resort stands out is that it hosted President Aquino during his visit to the Underground River last February. Jacqueline Tan, managing director of the resort, mentioned that P-Noy was impressed with the resort’s facilities, even recalling that he liked the design of the bathroom of the room he stayed in.

What also stands out aside from the facilities is that the resort is encompassed by nature. It’s like a hidden paradise that one has yet to discover. In fact, Tan said that plans are now on the way in putting up an organic farm in the area and that they envision Sheridan as a “green hotel” in helping preserve the nature that surrounds them.

With so much to offer, it’s only a must that one should go to Sheridan Resort and Spa and check out for themselves the experience and adventure it offers.
