Evidence suggests that about 4 billion years ago mars had atmosphere same to earth as the today.While ancient earth is covered by volcani activities.About 3.7 billion years ago the volcanoes on earth calmed and the cooled.At that time Earth started to hold life and mars turned into a barren world.Other evidence suggests that when earth became habitable world,mars passed on turning it into a cool and barren world that we know today.

Why Mars changed to a barren world.About 4.1 to 3.7 billion years ago our solar system was experiencing huge asteroid and solar outburst impacts.A large explosion occured in the suns atmosphere and created massive outburts of solar wind.These massive outburts stripped venus and mars atmosphere but not earth because earth had created powerfull magnetic field at time.This powerfull magnetic field repels the high energy particles created by the sun.At that time mars losed all of its thinner atmosphere and suns ultraviolet radiations began to pass throuugh mars surface that slowly dried all of its oceans.Today Mars had water but in forms of ice and some water that flows on mars at Gale crater.About 3.7 years ago mars volvanic activity increased and pumped out sulphur dioxide and hydrogen sulphide which make the microbial life to pass out.Between 2.5 and 3.6 billion years ago,the mars volcanic activity slowed down.Due to loss of its magnetic field mars changed into a dead and barren world.

That not only happened to mars but venus also that is rich of oxygen and solarwind changed into dead world.Today it has temperature of 400 degree celcius.
