There are so many claims about who Muslims are and what are their believes. At times it can be confusing about what is real and what is not. One of the most difficult thing is to separate politics from religion, specially when the two seems to be intertwined so much, but they're really not.

Islamic Believes:
Muslims have an organized religion with teachings taken from two primary sources : The Quran (Which Muslims believe is the revealed word of God) and The Hadith (Which are the personal sayings of Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W) on various topics and issues).
Islam against Violence:
Islam is a religion of peace and is against the use of violence in promoting its goals. There are verses in Quran which support this. In Islam, an amazingly powerful emphasis is laid on developing love for mankind and showing mercy and sympathy towards the creation of Allah Almighty including human beings and animals.
The battles fought under the leadership of Muhammad (S.A.W) were defensive in nature and occurred only after hostilities were already declared against the Muslims. The Quran and the policies of Muhammad described the justification of war and also imposed the rules for its humane conduct. These rules include things such as non-combatants are not to be harmed,quarter must be given to the surrendering troops,and peace negotiations when offered must be accepted.
Critics Of Islam:
When critics of Islam uses the few verses of Quran that talk about war out of context, they are just as dishonest as the few extremists in our midst who also twist the meaning and give them interpretations that are unknown to traditional Islam.
Terrorism:
Islam deals with terrorism by teaching Muslims not to be terrorists in the first place. When Islam is strictly against violence there is no argument about terrorism in Islam.
According to the teachings of Islam the attacks carried out on the innocent people in the name of Islam is not to be accepted and those who carry out these shameful acts deserves severe punishment.
