Katy Perry Is This Year's Highest-Earning Woman in Music for 2015, Says Forbes

A little over two weeks ago, we reported that Taylor Swift would become the highest-earning musician this year, beating out even Beyonce, and the rest of her peers. However, reports have broken that Katy Perry's Prismatic tour has ensured that Katy Perry sits comfortably at the top, earning a cushy $135 million this year.

Perry performed 126 shows during Forbes' scoring period, and grossed over $2 million per city. She also earned her way to the top with her deals with Coty, Claire's, and Covergirl.

Last year, Perry told Forbes, “I am proud of my position as a boss, as a person that runs my own company. I’m an entrepreneur... I don’t want to shy away from it. I actually want to kind of grab it by its balls.” And from what we've heard of Swift, she too is an active participant in the way her brand is run, and keeps a close eye on its goings on.

If anything, these reports indicate that musicians like Perry and Swift are ushering in a new generation, one where no one swindles them out of their money, because they don't pass it off to some accountant to look at it for them. The women are in control of their own brands, their own images, and ensure that the only headlines you read about their earnings says, “Highest-earning” rather than “Guess who got swindled?”

Taylor Swift herself clocks in behind Perry, earning $80 million this year, with Fleetwood Mac following at $59.5 million. And as far as this supposed feud between Perry and Swift goes, we're sure Perry can now buy Swift enough band-aids to cover those bullet holes.
