"LE BON TEMPS ROULET!" by, Susan Sacirbey

International Women’s Day Centennial Celebration begins March 8, 2011, which also happens to coincide this year with another celebration dear to my heart – New Orleans Mardi Gras. This week Diplomatically
Incorrect.org will host special film reports dealing with issues important to all women around the world.

In its mission, the UN declared in Article 1 of its Charter: "To achieve international co-operation... in promoting and encouraging respect for human rights and for fundamental freedoms for all without distinction as to race, sex, language, or religion." Women's rights are human rights and gender equality is an issue of universal concern.

Reflecting the past 100 years, women have come a long way, but there is still much work to do. This year's theme will focus on "equal access to education, training and science and technology - finding a decent pathway to decent work for women."

Fast-forward to the events of the past few weeks. Women have been playing
a leading role in the calls for reform that we have seen in the Arab world -- Tunisia and Egypt. May these positive trends continue to the further empowerment of women and the betterment of all mankind.

As they say in New Orleans, “Let the Good Times Roll!”
