Indian dramas focus on women negativity and positivity at the same time. Most of their dramas show that there are always women who make plans and conspiracies against other members of family. Women are always portrayed as someone who is trying to let down other people. Negative roles are given to women to show that they are cunning, sharp and smart. They easily play with sentiments of other people, fool them and exploit them. At the same time it is also shown that there is some other woman in the family who is protecting and nurturing her family. She fights with all the evil plans and save her family from all mishaps by making sacrifices. She is portrayed as caring, helpful, sensitive and loving person. This shows that there are two sides of women nature. Gender roles for a woman are defined as caring, helpful, sensitive and loving person. For example in kavy anjali, kyun ke saas bhi kbhi bahu thi, kahani ghar ghar ki etc. In all these dramas there is one woman who is portrayed as extreme negative and on the other hand there is another woman who is fighting with all the conspiracies and portrayed as positive.

In Indian dramas objectification of women is also common. Women are presented as objects who are loaded with heavy jewelry and makeup all the time. These dramas include many events that are related to their culture. As these dramas are daily soaps so the events are celebrated in many episodes. All the time women are merely used as source of entertainment and pleasure. The dances and performances by women are used to increase the ratings of their dramas because they are liked and appreciated by viewers. They are portraying their culture through this that how Indian women should look like. Standards of beauty and body image are promoted through these dramas and viewers try to meet these standards. Body image that is promoted by these dramas is of slim and tall girls. All the women who are performing lead roles are of certain features and body type. This body image is promoted among public. This objectification is lowering the status of women as a human. In these dramas abilities and talents of a woman are not focused however only emphasis is on their looks and objectification.

Gender stereotypes are also promoted in these dramas. Men are usually shown working outside and earning for their families while women are limited to their homes performing household chores, protecting and nurturing their families and providing care and love to their families. These dramas usually have no objective or message. They don’t have an impressive story as well. The purpose of these dramas is only to provide entertainment
