You wouldn’t really expect a group called the Suicide Squad to be beloved by so many, but there’s no denying that the idea of a team of supervillains who are forced to take on suicide missions for a shady government has struck a chord with many people. After the events of Crisis on Infinite Earths, writer John Ostrander took the original concept of the Suicide Squad (which began as merely a replacement for the Justice Society of America) and turned it into the far cooler modern incarnation that we know and love.
