Monsters are the new humans! - Film Annex Newsletter

Posted on at

We have been huge fans of Charles Pieper's animations since the beginning. Pieper, who joined Film Annex a few years ago when he was a student at Emerson College, now lives in Los Angeles and works as a stop motion animator, concept artist, director, editor, and monster maker. His monsters can sing, dance, and do a million other crazy things that we’d like to describe as “mind-bending” (and super fun… basically things that we wish WE could do). With his short films, animations, and music videos, Pieper challenges the limits of one’s imagination, and we think that’s the key to being a great artist. That’s why we chose his channel as our sponsored Web TV this week. Not to mention that Pieper knows how to connect with his audience via his blog and other social media tools. So, he’s a pretty good social networker as well! We hope that with the revenues Pieper raises with his Web TV this week, he’ll be able to finance his next project! If you’re a filmmaker with a new project on the horizon and want to get sponsored by Film Annex, all you have to do is to have an interactive Web TV with awesome films and blog posts on it. For more information, contact us at info@filmannex.com. Moving on… As a youngster, our featured filmmaker, Anthony McMenemy had one goal in mind: To be the man everybody wants to be. However, a routine lifestyle left him unfilled. It wasn’t until he decided to go back to school that he realized his true calling was filmmaking. Now, he’s a man with a goal, and his goal is to inspire, impress, enlighten, distress, but in all cases, to entertain. From a brutal chess game to the portrait of a tortured man, we like how McMenemy uses his short films to mirror the emotions he used to struggle with. Bela Erdei, the center figure of our featured film Béla: L'Homme Chat, surely likes to entertain people during the Cannes Film Festival, and he does it in his own bizarre way! Not the bizarre type that makes you run away, but the kind that makes you curious to watch more. Join this fun-spirited street performer, also known as the 'cat man', as he travels the streets of South France and entertains with his affectionate cats. A fictitious character, always noticeable and misunderstood at times, the 'cat man' still believes his entertainment will bring joy to someone’s life.
