Mussoorie

Posted on at

My one day weekend was spent at Mussoorie, a lovely hill station near Dehradun. The trip was nice and scenic with a pit stop at a Lord Shiva temple, my third temple visit in India. There are lots of monkeys around this temple who are quick to snatch your stuff. When we left the temple monkeys where sliding off the car.The temple stop also served as n ice cream stop for fruit cocktails. They were good but the gel like syrup was a bit off to me. This temple doesn't take offerings or donations, instead they give food to people throughout the day so people can come back repeatedly. The road to Mussoorie is a long and winding one. Makes me nervous seeing people flying up and down the road. We stopped along the way for photo opps along the way. We brought along snacks and water but kept leaving them in the car so bought food and drinks throughout the day.

At Mussoorie there were lots of shops to browse, students in uniform and cute little restaurants. First stop after parking was a cute restaurant for some chocolatey treats. The place had rotary phones and other throwback pieces as part of the decor. I went in search of postcards and got a nice book of 12 postcards and 3 magnets from a stationary shop which cost me more than the 20 postcards I got at Golkonda Fort in Hyderabad. I looked into getting a wallet when we stopped to buy a head massager. We took a cable car ride and explored a bit before having some chai. We did some window shopping and enjoyed a magic demonstration that led to a sale.

We headed back down and to the car to descend the hills back to Dehradun. On the way down the hill we stopped for some egg maggi. The road to Mussoorie is lined with maggie shops that I'm told are open 24/7. Indian style Ramen as Americans would call it or fancy Indo mie. Instant noodles no matter the brand can be found across the globe.

Missed out on buy an awesome bracelet that were multiple interconnected bracelets

After we got back to Dehradun we went to the neighborhood Diwali party where I filled up on Jalebi and some fried veggies. Was a bit chilly so I left early. Also I was the only non Hindi speaker so felt odd. After contemplating evening plans we went out for roadside mutton momos and fish pakora. Yummy snacks and filling dinner.
