National Fritters Day

Posted on at

Today, December 2nd, is National Fritters Day.

The name fritter covers a wide variety of fried foods, which are usually covered in batter or breaded. Pretty much anything can, and is, made into a fritter, such as meats, fruit and fish.

In Britain a lot of things are fried in batter in fish and chip shops and called fritters, such as spam fritters and potato fritters. Or the deep fried Mars Bar, which is technically a fritter.

In the US, fritters refer to a cake that has an ingredient mixed with an egg and milk batter and deep fried. Consequently, an American apple fritter is different to a British one.
