IISLAMABAD: The National Tariff Commission (NTC) has initiated associate investigation on the request of a neighborhood razor blade manufacturer for waiving the regulative duty on import of its key staple — steel strips.

The sole manufacturer of double edge shaving blades, safety razors and disposable razors in West Pakistan, Treet Corporation restricted, metropolis approached the NTC for discharge of regulative duty on steel strips.

An official announcement of the NTC same the native manufacturer imports extremely precise cold rolled steel strips for producing of shaving blades/razors, having thickness of zero.0098mm and breadth of twenty-two.2mm.

However, in West Pakistan Custom Tariff (PCT), the steel strips area unit treated at par with general class of cold rolled steel coils having 600mm breadth like iron steels, plates of steel.

The native manufacturer has requested the NTC for reduction in custom duty on steel strips having breadth of twenty-two.2mm and thickness of zero.098mm from ten per cent to 5pc because it isn't regionally manufactured; and abolishing of regulative duty at the speed of seventeen.5pc obligatory on steel strips having breadth of twenty-two.2mm and thickness of zero.098mm.

It was conjointly demanded to get rid of the tariff anomaly in duty structure applicable to the double edge shaving blades as presently the import duties on the finished product percent No. 8212.2000 area unit 25pc (custom duty 20pc and 5pc regulative duty), whereas import duties on main staple i.e. steel strips having breadth of twenty-two.2mm and thickness of zero.098mm percent No. 7226.9200 is 27.5pc (10pc tariff and seventeen.5pc regular duty).

The manufacturer demanded creation of separate percent sub-heading at eight digit level to classify steel strips having breadth of twenty-two.2mm and thickness of zero.098mm utilized in the producing of shaving blades.

The NTC in its announcement same, “Views/suggestions could also be sent among fifteen days to the NTC.”

A public hearing on the difficulty is scheduled to be continued Feb eighteen at NTC, Islamabad. All interested parties will attend the general public hearing with previous data, the discharge intercalary.
