ORGANIZATIONAL PUZZLES AND APPLICATIONS OF OB

Different organizations have different type of culture and they vary in the ways how they deal in with their employees. At different levels various problems and behavioral puzzles occur and they effect employee satisfaction and performance as well as the output required in an organization. In any workplace the possible problems in my opinion can be perception issues, lack of proper motivation, less team building spirit, improper methods of performance appraisal, poor leadership, faulty decision making, rigid attitude towards organizational change, work place stress and performance management. Similar kind of issues was encountered by me during my internship.
Human resources department in any organization is considered to be the central unit for providing possible practical solutions to all such problems. HR consultants can make use of organization development techniques and plans for resolving these issue and hence to improve the organizational efficiency. Hr department at the place where I worked was not actively working as most of the internees could not get a chance to learn and to take patients and hr and supervisors were least bothered about it.
OB has an important role in guiding individuals to attribute reasons to different conflicts by carefully analyzing them. There are sometimes issues because lack of perceptual accuracy. Such issues can be resolved by increasing the sensitivity level of your own behavior towards knowing other by comparing your perception with that of others. Diverse workforce can help evaluate the same matter in a wide perspective hence leading to better work environment. Diverse work force was available during my internship but it was not managed by making proper teams.
Motivation is considered to be the significant factor to solve the issues in offices. Lack of incentives and appreciation can make individual feel discouraged. Moreover considering the opinion of employee while making decision can also aid the process of motivation as employee no more feel alienated.
Leadership must be assigned by observing the skills of different individual. A leader must be capable of taking initiative and calculated risk and must know how to take other along. Selecting a passionate leader also help in solving conflicts and in bringing up other individuals as future leaders.
Dynamic organizations welcome change in policies and strategies and they encourage innovative ideas from their employees. The organization where I worked was working on traditional way and creativity was not there. Employees were not provided with latest machinery and techniques. This issue could be resolved by making use of OB knowledge and by providing training to employees about latest methods and about how to change as organization changes.
Feedback provides information for revision or improvement or modification of needs as needed. Depending on how well the goal is accomplished their needs and motives are modified. Drastic changes in environment necessitate the revision and modification of needs and this is done by the OB practioners in by organization.
Job rotation is to assign people to different jobs or tasks to different people on a temporary basis. The idea is to add variety and to expose people to the dependence that one job has on other jobs. Job rotation can encourage higher levels of contributions and renew interest and enthusiasm. The organization benefits from a cross‐trained workforce.
During unsettled times, Value individual contributions. Leaders must ensure that employees understand how their individual efforts contribute to the organizations overall strategy and direction. People want to be part of a winning team. Employees will take pride and be engaged in their work if they understand how their efforts impact the organization. Appraisal therefore is a very important element of organizational development. There was an improper appraisal method practice in the hospital where I did my internship.
