Passenger's Seat

Posted on at

Last summer, Mom and I went shopping. The bus we rode pm was so full, the people standing along the aisle were like sardines squeezed in a can. Mother and I were fortunate we were able to have seats.

In the next bus stop, a very ill woman, accompanied by two companions, came up the bus. She was to be brought to a hospital for a checkup. Unfortunately, nobody offered a seat.

I felt very uncomfortable. I could never imagine that the men sitting comfortably on their seats could not give up the their seat for a sick, old woman. Finally, a kindhearted man offered his seat to her. She smiled at him and murmured her thanks.

On the next stop, a woman carrying a baby came up. Another gentleman immediately offered a seat to her. Another old woman came up. The bus was already running fast, but no gentleman got up and offered her a seat. As I looked around, those near her began a doze and nod. Nor used to see an old woman standing, I offered a  seat to her. She profusely thanked me.

Then I heard it loud and clear, this old woman whom I offered my seat, saying, "Rarely do we see people who are willing to help those in need. I thank this young lady for offering me her seat."

That was one of the best compliments I ever received in my whole life.
