PERCEPTION OF COMMERCE STUDENTS

Perception of Commerce Students

In Pakistan, both Commerce and Science are studied widely. However the scale of science is sometimes higher than that of commerce. In Pakistan, I have realized that students studying Science are given more respect than students of commerce. It is a common perception that science offers a huge variety of choices and other streams don’t. It may or may not be true but the fact is that, it’s better to be a good businessman than to be an average engineer. Commerce is a subject which will always be in demand .I have personally observed how arrogant some Science students are and how low they think of students from other streams. Some students think that by taking Commerce or Arts, nobody will respect them.

In Pakistan, Commerce students mostly serve their country by earning in the ratio of 7 to 10 and they mostly get jobs within the country. However, Science students get good education from the country and go abroad to get jobs. I think it’s better to serve your own country.

I think it’s very unfair since both are studying things that have great depth and both have their own implications for the future. My suggestion is to take up the subject that interests you. Let people judge you all they want. If everyone studies Science and becomes an engineer, then how will companies find managers to run the day to day affairs? Commerce teaches you the dynamics of an industry, teaches you about finance, marketing, human resource and the economy as a whole. I think that it is time to put an end to this unfair behavior and that Commerce students be respected as much as Science students.
