PESHAWAR: A local court on Friday sent a social media activist of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf, Qazi Jalal, to the Peshawar Central Prison on judicial remand in a case of vilification of judges of the superior court by tweeting allegations against them.

The activist was produced before court of judicial magistrate Mohammad Asif Jadoon after completion of his two day physical custody with the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).

A team of the FIA Cyber Crimes Wing had arrested the suspect from his residence on Tuesday.

The FIA claimed that the suspect had posted critical and libelous material about judges of the superior courts on his social media profile on Twitter. The complaint was lodged by a family member of a judge of the Peshawar High Court.

The suspect has been charged under sections 36 and 37 of the Pakistan Electronic Transaction Ordinance, 2002. Section 36 deals with violation of privacy of information while 37 is about causing damage to information system.
