Rashid Minhas

Rashid Minhas Shaheed was born on February 17 1951 in Karachi. He belong to rajput and minhas family. His earlier education from st mary’s cambride school Rawalpindi. Later on his family shifted to Karachi. He was interested in aviation history and technology. He used to collect different models of aircraft and air jets. He joined as newly commissioned officer at that time on march 13 1971. He was only the PAF officer to receive the highest award Nishan e Haider. He began training to become a pilot. Unfortunately on the same year August 20 he was ready to take off in T-33 jet trainer in Karachi. Rashid Minhas was taxiing to ward the runway a Bengali instructor Matiur Rehman signaled him to stop and climbed into the instructor seat. The took off and turned the air jet toward India.

Minhas Radioed PAF Masoor base with message that he was being hijacked. In the air Minhas struggleto wrest control from his instructor but from the india 32 miles the jet crashed near Thatta. Both were killed.

 

Minhas was awarded Pakistan's top military honour, the Nishan e Haidrer
