Russian World Cup bid - Intiative for New Openness or Step toward Old Empire?

Posted on at

World Cup for 2018 in Russia will have significant diplomatic/political consequences. Russia's establishment will employ this success to herald another step/return to old global glory recognized during the Soviet Union era. Many Russians as well as global citizens would also like to see this winning bid translated toward a commitment for greater internal openness. Undoubtedly, the true consequences remain to be seen, and the strength of the Russian Federation citizen will be recognized in the diversity of its people and capacity to surpass expectations for positive as well as negative. The fact that the Russian World Cup will be held over multiple time zones and federative republics/geographic areas is an indication from the beginning at least, for openness and diversity.
