SankalpTaru Picnic

Posted on at

Today was a partial workday. Worked in the morning while waiting for everyone to arrive for the staff picnic. I am happy for the change of scenery from Hyderabad and to be in Dehradun. Today's office picnic was great with entire Dehradun staff and boss' family. We set off to the foothills which is the same road to Mussoorie. The long narrow winding road uphill with daredevils on the road. We stopped at a temple dedicated to the snake on Lord Shiva's head. Everyone else went in and rang the bells and did the proper I'm not sure if it's rights or gestures around the temple. I watched and didn't ask questions as it is a holy place for them and didn't want to ask stupid questions.

From there we went to the picnic site which wasn't far off. Parked the car on the side of the road and climbed up a ways to a nice spot just above the winding road and awesome views. Menu was grilled chicken, pancakes made by me, parathas and namkeen. Relived Ursuline days of badmitten and how bad I am at the game with boss' daughter that she soon got tired of me as a partner. We all enjoyed a good meal, good company, good drinks (shared a bottle of smirnoff) took a hike up the hill to walk of round 1 of food then settled into round 2 before packing up and heading back to town. On the way to town we stopped for chai. I like the culture and seems picnic trips is part of the culture which is awesome considering the location and neat spots to explore.

Back to work tomorrow and see about starting global operations. If I do a good job who knows I may get a long term contract. Work life balance is important and I am yet to figure out what that is since I'm either always working like post Binghamton pre Thunderbird or not working at all. When I am working and being productive I still feel unproductive when multitasking on things unrelated to work like surfing iwastesomuchtime.com and chatting. Got some questions to answer for myself on best way to move forward from IDEX and not go backwards. New opportunities will arise and need to know how to identify the right ones and leave the wrong ones behind instead of jumping at the first opportunity for fear of being left with nothing. Ok I've strayed from picnic topic of the day. Returned to office and discussed some work matters before calling it a night. Finally took out the bicylce for a ride n found it to low or just to lazy to adjust seat but did make 3 trips to the street which is a slight incline and a nice downhill back. Got back to level after over eating and 1 or 2 too many pegs. Went on a nice walk later on and now to plan for 1 on 1 for IDEX and skype interview for teaching English in what I just learned is a posh area in South Korea.
