Sugar selling at Rs65 a kg

KARACHI: Retailers have pushed up the sugar value to Rs65 per weight unit despite a fall in its wholesale rate to Rs58 from Rs61-62 many days back.

Earlier this month, retailers were charging Rs60-62 a weight unit once the wholesale rate was Rs56.50, that then climbed to Rs60-61.

Retailers claimed that they need purchased the artifact at Rs61-62 per weight unit and their stock would take time to use up.

However, a distributor aforesaid that the govt. ought to check the rates at retailers’ finish owing to a large value distinction.

With over two million tonnes of stock and declining international sugar costs customers were still paying higher costs for the artifact, he said, adding that the sugarcane crushing would continue until Gregorian calendar month 2016.

Sugar value has been climb since the govt. distributed Rs6.5 billion (Rs13 per kg) export grant to the millers in December 2015, once the retail value was Rs55 a weight unit.
