The Death of Henry I

On December 1st 1135, Henry I, King of England and fourth son of William the Conqueror (aka William I and William the Bastard), died.

Henry had originally been left landless, with his elder brothers getting the land. William Rufus, the third son, was killed in 1100 in the New Forest, Richard, the second son, died in 1075. The heir, Robert, was defeated by Henry and imprisoned.

Henry I only legitimate son, William, died in a 1120. Henry tried to get his daughter, Empress Matilda (aka Empress Maude), made heir to the throne. Henry's death resulted in a 19 year war in England and Normandy between Matilda and Stephen of Bois known as the Anarchy.
