The Death of Jefferson Davis

Posted on at

On December 6th 1889 Jefferson Davis died.

Davis was an American soldier and politician. He served as U.S. Secretary of War, as a US Senator from Mississippi and as a member of the US House of Representatives from Mississippi, as well as being a colonel and later brigadier general of the US Army during the Mexican-American War.

His most famous post was, of course, as the first, last and only President of the Confederate States of America during the US Civil War.

Following the war, he was initially imprisoned, and then later amnestied. Despite being elected to the US Senate again, he was barred from serving. He finally died after suffering from acute bronchitis complicated by malaria.
