The Execution of William Wallace

Posted on at

On August 23rd, the Scot William Wallace was executed in London. He was hanged, drawn and quartered for high treason by Edward I of England, which is a pretty nasty death, so if you really want to know what it is, look it up.

Wallace was a Scottish landowner and a leader in the Wars of Scottish Independence and defeated an English army at the Battle of Stirling Bridge.

Most are probably familiar with Wallace from the character played by Mel Gibson in Braveheart. This, however, was a typical Hollywood historical film - in other words, incredibly inaccurate and described as one of the most historically inaccurate modern films.
