The only lake in the world that changes color depending on the light and the people who swim in its waters or not is just 45 minutes from the town of Baia Sprie, near Baia Mare.
Because solubilization of sulfur compounds, the water is green, sometimes with hints of emerald, several shades of blue and turquoise.
The lake is approximately 50 meters from one shore to the other, only 4 feet deep and was formed by the collapse of old mining exploitation, Ms. Philo, in years 1919 - 1920. Since then remained full of sulfur water which changes color shades from green to blue. More specifically, the chemical compound in the lake made it here to be present and free sulfuric acid in a concentration of 7.8 milligrams per liter, and the pH of the water to reach 4. Do not be scared, it can safely swim in the lake !
Blue Lake is located on the territory of Baia Sprie, a young oak forest on the southern slope of Mine Hill, at an altitude of 530 m and has an area of ​​0.5 ha.
