The Thrill of Short Films!

Posted on at

Last night, myself, Jack Tew, and Chris Watson wood- team of directors, picked up some kit from a London kit house and proceeded to a street corner in essex... To shoot a short film.

The deadline for virgin media shorts is approaching, which is what made us, or Jack in particular, incredibly keen and determined to get this shot and finished... It's been in the pipeline for a while, but life and work just kept getting in the way! This meant that we had to put aside the fact we all had to get up for work, or meetings in the morning, and just knuckle down and get it done.

Just the three of us, a camera, some lights... And of course a few general public of essex asking what we were doing.

It's been... TOO long since we shot a short film. The last I made was 'lull'... But that was a bigger scale shoot with many more Crew. I love the intimacy of a low key, short film, nothing can beat the bouncing around of ideas, trying to come up with home made solutions to problems and the feeling that you are really creating something.

Sometimes, on commercials or bigger budget shoots, there are so many people that it feels less like your own 'baby', and more of a mass produced film, it's much less personal.

We reviewed some of the footage last night, and the feeling of fulfilment was just brilliant! Watching back a quick cut of what we had just achieved really brought back that feeling that started out at Uni, or when we started making films. It's the reason we all went in to making films... And I love it :-)

Its the buzz of short films!

By the time the sun began to peep its head up over the horizon, we were just about done! Batteries all on red and eyes 90% closed... It was finally time for our beds! But the film will be well worth it... And we had fun too! (of course)

Watch jacks page for the release of the film, which should be in two weeks or less!

'Lull' is just about to go into the grade... So watch this space for the trailer of that also!
