Top 10 Wonderful Historic Monuments

10. Hagia Sophia, Turkey. At the beginning of its construction in 532 it was a basilica, later it became a mosque and now this beauty serves as a museum.

9. Petra, Jordan. Carved in the rock, Petra is sometimes called the rose of the desert. It was the capital of the Nabataean kingdom from 9 B.C. to A.D. 40.

6. The Colosseum, Italy. The impressive arena could have held 50 000 spectators, who came to watch the fighting gladiators. Built in A.D. 70, the Colosseum is a marvelous Roman heritage.

5. Chichén Itzá, Mexico. The city was the center of Mayan civilization from A.D. 750 to 1200. The Temple of Kukulkan is the most famous monument.

4. Wat Phra Si Sanphet, Thailand. The royal temple was built in 1448 A.D. It is a very well preserved ancient wonder.

3. Moai, Easter Island. Carved by the Rapa Nui people, the monolithic sculptures were made between 1250 and 1500. Scientist still are not sure how the giant figures were made and brought here.

2. Angkor Wat, Cambodia. The monument was built in the 12th century and is the biggest Hindu, as well as the biggest religious temple complex in world.
