Victory Tour – Cameron, Sarkozy & Bernard Henri Levy in New Libya – Photo Tells the Story, by Ambassador mo

It is not only a military victory, but France’s Sarkozy and UK’s Cameron are enjoying political triumph, especially for the former who needs some catalyst before French elections. Perhaps expectedly, Bernard Henri Levy the French intellectual who served as catalyst for French and NATO intervention, joined the victory tour. His support for Sarkozy’s reelection may be less certain, as he has been a stalwart Socialist; however Libya may have altered fortunes and alliances. Speaking of fortunes, the victory for France and the UK (and probably the US and most NATO members with potential exception of Germany which remained “neutral”) will translate economically. The new Libya authorities have signaled that they will favor those who supported the rebel side. ). Italy and the Berlusconi government had clingy ties to Gaddafi family and fortune, but also joined the coalition supporting the rebels. Even if on the right side, Italy may find it more difficult to fashion a more exclusive role for Italian business and including the ENI oil company. China has been scrambling to refashion its past and current role. Whether that works, remains to be seen, but France and the UK enjoy the moment and soon the spoils.
