Why Choose a Literary Agent

Posted on at

After a book is complete, the question arises whether or not to secure a literary agent to represent the book. Only an author can make the personal decision about agent representation based on the author’s personal goals.

Most publishing houses, especially the major houses, only accept submissions from a literary agent. An agent will properly format the manuscript for a publishing house, and will send the manuscript to the ideal individual publisher. Publishing houses receive over a hundred manuscript submissions every month. Each manuscript sent to the wrong publisher is wasting valuable time for everyone.

Literary agent representation is the only practical and effective way for an author to receive a book deal, movie deal, and media promotion.

Agents handle the following:

• Communicate with publishing house

• Negotiate contracts

• Frees writer to write

• Unofficial therapist (writer’s are crazy)
